The Exodus out of slavery in Egypt is the defining event of the Old Testament. Through this mighty act of salvation God makes himself known to the world and redeems a people to be his very own. This past act of salvation determined their relationship with God and their very identity. Yet, this pivotal moment in history is merely a foreshadow of a second, greater exodus to come. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God accomplishes another greater exodus from slavery, making himself known fully, and rescuing a new people to be his very own.
